ClubSpotting with Jarly Óg Burns

It isn't always easy for the apple that falls a short distance from the tree. More often than not, it remains in the trees shadow. Growing up the son of a former great is a tough ask but Jarly Óg Burns is most definitely his own man. He is a massive part of the Armagh resurgence, helping not only to bring the Orchard county back to Division 1, but to help maintain their top tier status. A freak game against Monaghan in the Championship ended their season, but unlike other years, the foundations to become genuine contenders are firmly in place for 2022. This week we went ClubSpotting with Jarly Óg Burns to Silverbridge Harps.

What are your first memories of your club Silverbridge Harps?

My first memories of the club would have to be when I was starting U8s the club was like a building side, but that has paved the way for the fantastic facilities we have today. Another memory would be going to blitz’s all over the country with my friends, I really cherish them moments.

Who were your sporting idols growing up?

I never really had any sporting idols, I tried to pick up parts of many great players games. I suppose with my father being a former Armagh captain I always aspired to follow in his footsteps.

What has been the proudest moment of your playing career?

The proudest moment of my playing career would have to be my championship debut against Down in 2019. The game went to extra time and we won by a point.

Toughest opponent you have faced?

I would have to say Sean O'Shea has been my toughest opponent, I played against him in the Sigerson cup final.

Best player you have played with?

I would say Aidan Forker is the best player I've played with. He is the ultimate professional and he has really helped me in my playing career so far.

Any pre game rituals or superstitions?

I don't really have any but I like to listen to a bit of music before big games.

What are your hopes and ambitions for the remainder of the season?

It would be nice to go on a good run with the club in championship this season.
