Sports clubs across the country are invited to apply for The Texaco Support for Sport initiative, which is designed to recognise the contribution made by sports clubs within society. The initiative offers one sports club in each county within the Republic support in a manner that can benefit them most, through the presentation of a €5,000 cash prize.
Launching the 2023 programme, James Twohig, Director of Ireland Operations, Valero Energy (Ireland) Limited, - the company that markets fuel in Ireland under the Texaco brand – described the initiative as one that “opens-up an avenue to funding for those clubs and communities that need it most.” A gross figure of €260,000 has been divided amongst 52 sports clubs across Ireland as part of the initiative over the past two years.
The initiative is once again being led by Texaco Support for Sport ambassador, broadcaster and former Irish rugby international, Donncha O’Callaghan.
All sport clubs, irrespective of size, cultural appeal, gender or sporting discipline, who are affiliated to a sporting association or federation in the Republic and are represented by a duly authorised individual are eligible to apply. Applicants must also hold a valid GS number (Games & Sports Exemption number) issued by the Office of the Revenue Commissioners.
How to apply
Clubs wishing to apply should first register their interest on The Texaco Support for Sport website. This should be followed by submitting completed application form before the closing date, including details of their sporting activity, the importance of the club in their local community, the purpose for which the funding is sought, and the use to which the funds will be put.
Closing date for applications is 31st January 2023 with adjudication taking place thereafter - so make sure you submit your application soon!
