ClubSpotting with Daniel Flynn

When you think of Daniel Flynn, it's hard not to think of the Herculean point he scored against the Dubs where he took on the entire defence only to whip it off the outside of his right boot when they thought they had him bottled up on the sideline. It embodied the talent he possesses and how important a player he is for the Lilywhites. With his pace and power, he is the personification of a nightmare for defenders and seemed to only be entering his peak this year until Kildare exited the championship. This week we went ClubSpotting with Daniel Flynn to Johnstownbridge to chat with the man himself.

What are your first memories of your club Johnstownbridge?

My first memories of the club would be watching the senior team train after underage training. I was in awe of the pace, physicality and noise of their sessions.

Who were your sporting idols growing up?

When I was younger, my uncle used to hurl for Offaly - it would be fair to say I thought he walked on water.

What has been the proudest moment of your playing career?

Lining out for Kildare with my brother in the 2021 Leinster Final.

Toughest opponent you have faced?

James Morgan marked me when we played Armagh in the qualifiers in 2017 - he's probably been the toughest I've faced. I get nothing easy off Eoin Doyle in training either!

Best player you have played with?

Kevin Feely - he can do it all.

Any pre-game rituals or superstitions?

No, nothing really. I like to have a Coffee about 2 hours before the game.

What are your hopes and ambitions for 2022?

My ambition for 2022 was to win Leinster with Kildare. That wasn't to be, but we'll roll the dice again next year. For now, I'm looking forward to enjoying my football with the club and getting away on a few holidays.
